Take 5: Last Breath

A second week in a row of the Cinemark Mystery Movie Series. If nothing else, I will definitely say I slept a little less through this one.

Once again, a movie based on a true story. That has never been an indicator of good or bad for me. But it takes place at/involves the sea/a ship as its main setting. That is one of those backdrops that is a very tough sell (or in this case sail) for me. Medieval times are about the only thing that’s even harder for me to get into, but there are a few exceptions.

Not sure this is one of them.

The good:

I DO like Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu. Fortunately, they are two of the three main characters and the two most interesting of the three.

There is a lengthy sequence where the movie comes to life. I was certainly engaged in it. I found myself holding my breath as much as the character. It was compelling for sure and warrants the good will this movie has gotten. But even that almost felt a little long.

I also couldn’t remember why they even found themselves in this situation. Was the movie vague or did I drift off to sleep for the explanation? I will give the movie the benefit of the doubt and assume that was my fault.

I definitely didn’t hate this movie despite its setting. I wanted to cheer for these characters and was happy with how everything worked out in the end.

Would I watch this one again? Sure, I AM curious about the bits that I missed. Perhaps they would enough to sway me further to the other side.

This movie and the previous one had the fact that I I was rolling the dice with the Mystery Series and where not movies I would likely have seen. The battle was an uphill one. As a result, I have to acknowledge it as a valiant effort. I won’t be able to attend this week’s third Mystery Series movie so hopefully that will bode well for week six?

And speaking of…

My score: 6 , but I’d see it again.

And that does it for week. Til next time… don’t forget to take a big breath and just breath….
