Take 6: Heart Eyes

For the past couple of weeks, I have been the mercy of the Cinemark Mystery Movie Series to varying degrees of failure. This one one was my choice- for better or worse. It was absolutely for the better. I LOVED this movie! A lot!

From the very beginning, it was made clear that we were doing camp. It is so over the top, and I dug it!

I was expecting a horror film but what I got was something that felt a lot more like a rom-com. It was an evocative of Happy Death Day, another one I really loved, but they took the romantic comedy even further. At one point, I almost forgot that it was a slasher.

When it slashed, boy did it slash. This one is really gory it places, but for the most part it was done with humor and over the topness. B*tches were getting cut left and right, but rarely did I find it too much.

And the cast—- this is a pretty one for sure. I was not familiar with Olivia Holt, but she quickly got a “holt” of my heart. As for Mason Gooding I have been a fan since the last two Scream films. It appears as though he is being positioned as Hollywood’s new (?) Scream King, and I definitely approve. Not since Rose McGow’s Tatum have an enjoyed the BFF in a horror movie as much, so good on you Gigi Zumbado.

This movie was so much fun! It was not at all what I expected, but it was everything I needed. Mystery Movie Series, I’mma need you to quit playing unless you are offering stuff more like this!

My score: 9. My gripe are minimal, my enjoyment, maximum.

Until next week, show a little love to someone before you decide to impale them….
